Biographical profile

Michel AVERSENG was born in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) in 1936. After studying at the Toulouse Beaux-Arts School, he joined the Gimond Atelier at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, and afterwards did his national service in Algeria.

Back to his studies, he won several prizes among which the "Prix de la Fondation Renault" and was awarded a scholarship by the Japanese Government. He stayed for two years in JAPAN and created a monumental sculpture " Okasan et Akachan " for the Masuda Atelier (Kyoto). He had the opportunity to familiarize himself with bronze casting.
He travelled to the Far East and was particularly impressed by Cambodia then went to AUSTRALIA where he stayed for two years.

Since his return to France in 1971, he has exclusively dedicated himself to sculpture, most of the time in the parisian area. Creating a figurative artwork he has taken part to many art exhibitions in Paris as well as in the provinces (cf exhibitions).
In 1978, he set up his own foundry work in the area of Toulouse and casted many of his statues.. For some fifteen years, he also tought drawing and sculpture at the Chaville Académie des Beaux-Arts (near Paris). That was a rewarding experience among an enthusiast and talented team.

In 2002, he set down in the Toulouse area where he is carrying on his creative activity.

For about ten years, he was the president of the Sculpture Section at the Société des Artistes Français in Paris and vice-president in 2010-11. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of A.D.A.G.P. (Society for preserving the artists' interests) for many years till 2015.


In 2018, the book "Parcours d'un sculpteur" (in French), which showcases his artwork, was published by the publishing house In Extenso - Art & Culture
